Het Internet Is Van Mij.be : the first update, the hard figures, the twinkle in every marketeer’s eyes.

As mentioned earlier on this blog, we launched ‘Het Internet is van mij’ (NL/fr), a viral campaign for our client Belgacom. The idea is dead simple: we took Belgacom’s campaign line ‘Het internet is van iedereen’ (L’internet est à tout le monde – The internet belongs to everybody) literally and offer everybody the chance to experience the unique thrill of becoming the Proud Owner of The Internet.
Everyone who becomes an owner gets an official certificate; every hour a new winner appears in live banners; every day you can win a portable pc and the overall winner gets Belgacom ADSL for life.
Of course there are some web 2.0 goodies like a Facebook/Netvibes widget. And because the ‘virus’ is far beyond the Belgian borders, we’re putting an English site version online tomorrow.
Results after a good week: almost 50.000 Belgians registered, 120.000 unique visitors so far and an average click rate of just under 1 click per.. second. 50% of the site visitors registered and we expect our 1.000.000th click tomorrow. We couldn’t believe our eyes either.
